7 days through the Great Silk Road

Explore diverse aspects of Armenian and ancient world history at various stops on the Armenian part of the Great Silk Road along your journey. Find out the centuries-old monasteries, most of them are UNESCO Heritage Sites, try tasty and eco meal and wine. During this week, you will have an opportunity to interact with local people and be experienced first-hand what Armenian hospitality feels like.

 

The ancient monasteries of Geghard, Tatev and Noravank (4th, 10th and 13th centuries) show you the origins of Christian culture. The Medieval Cemetery of Noratus reveals to you the unique tradition of cross stones and shows the centuries-old traditions and customs of the Armenians. By the way, since 2010, khachkars, their symbolism and craftsmanship are inscribed in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. A medieval caravanserai will open you the hidden tracks, stories and legends of the ancient Silk Road. On the Lake Sevan enjoy the picturesque Armenian nature and beautiful landscapes around the second highest freshwater lake in the world at an altitude of 1900 m a.s.l. In spite of that, there is a lot to discover in the capital Yerevan!

In the Manuscript Archive and Research Institute Matenadaran, you will learn about ancient and medieval manuscripts and more. It is a haven for smart travelers, as the Matenadaran collection was inscribed by the UNESCO into the Memory of the World Register in 1997, recognizing it as a valuable collection of international significance.

In Yerevan you can also expect authentic Armenian city life: walk through the city center, visit various museums and galleries, the Opera House and concert halls, original cafes and wine  bars, and of course, the delicious Armenian cuisine! Day 2:Yerevan – Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni Cave 1 – Wine Tasting – Goris.
Day 3:Goris - Tatev - Khndsoresk - Karahunj - Yeghegis.
Day 4:Yeghegis - Vardenyats Pass - Caravanserei - Cemetery of Noratus - Sevan - Yerevan.
